I'm finally trying out the Mastering Monsterpocalypse series. Here's the thing, even though I hope this will make me a better player, I'm still treating it as a casual experience. If I were going for my most competitive monster in a tournament sense, I'd run with Tyrranix. For this challenge, though, I want to see what I can get out of Rakadon, who tends to get no love.
Strategy & Tactics: Go to Ultra as quickly as possible. Get to the enemy's side of the board, taking damage if necessary, and align to Throw him/her onto my side. This is obviously easier said than done. Posh Apartments are located in the mid-field to provide Spires to which I am immune, as well as snacks on my way to the opponent's side. Sports Arenas are distributed along my side to assist my various brawlers (in particular the Carnidons, who, believe it or not, are the primary monster-tagging team). The Statue of Liberty is the only building I really want to secure long-term for its assistance in powering up, but even if it's destroyed, the several Mt. Terras will let me keep beacon for extra movement. Airborne Apes and the Spikodon are there for unit suppression, assisted by one or both of the Stealth Apes. When the need arises, however, the Stealth Apes, Raptices, Carnidons, and Raptices combine to nail all but the highest-defense monsters for 2 per turn (2 Carnidons, benefiting from Bersek and within range of a Raptix, are throwing 2A + 6B with the enemy at a -1 to defense. A Brontox within range ups that to 2*8).
Favorite buildings: Posh apartments and Mt. Terras
Strengths of this army: Can brawl just about anything, with the Carnidons and Stealth Apes strong enough (thanks to Berserk) to be able to solo many other units and with enough bonuses (such as Flank) to make attacks by Raptices and Pteradactices (primarily there for Tow and Riled) more likely.
Weaknesses of this army: I know not everybody likes Carnidons, but at only two, and with a specific job like monster-tagging in mind, they're not actually a horrible choice here. Unless the opposing monster can fly (and once Frontline Apes come out). The big problem will be pushing through with Rakadon. Despite the extra two movement granted by Beacon on unit turns, he's a movement 6 ground-pounder. He's not a power attacker, but a brawler. And getting him aligned to Throw an enemy towards my side of the board is not going to be easy at all.
Other relevant information: I'll be testing this build, in a slightly altered form (lacking enough Sports Arenas and Posh Apartments), against my wife's Ultra Zor-Maxim army.
